Roots Studio

Community Engagement Lead

Roots Studio works with indigenous artists globally to digitise endangered heritage folk art and licenses it as surface patterns to the fashion industry through community workshops.

Key Deliverables of the project:

The project largely entailed designing a pedagogy to aid community engagement and knowledge dissemination to the folk artists in a more visual and engaging format. The pedagogy was developed as a visual scroll and narrated as a story in Hindi. The scroll was inspired from Gond paintings, using several folk elements like animals and birds.

The overarching objective of the workshops were to build trust and bridge the knowledge and cultural gaps between the artists and the organisation.

Orchestrated three pilot workshops with the Gond and Bhil artists in Madhya Pradesh, and Warli artists in Maharashtra.
